Which platform is actually better for beginners: AvaTrade vs eToro account setup and usability?

I’m completely new to forex and trying to decide where to open my first real account. I’ve done the demo versions on both AvaTrade and eToro, and they feel pretty different.

My main questions:

  • How straightforward is the account opening process on each? Any confusing steps or documentation requirements?
  • Which platform is actually easier to navigate when you’re just starting out?
  • How helpful is the educational material each one provides?
  • What’s the minimum deposit, and does it matter which account type you choose as a beginner?
  • Are there any beginner traps I should watch out for on either platform?

I also want to use rebates to help reduce my learning costs. How does the rebate system work on each, and is it easy to set up?

I’m not looking for the “best” broker overall—just the one that makes sense for someone who’s brand new and doesn’t want to deal with unnecessary complications right away.

eToro is definitely easier for beginners. The account opening takes maybe 10 minutes and the interface is intuitive.

AvaTrade requires a bit more setup, but the educational resources are better. They have good tutorials for MT4 if you’re not familiar with it.

For a beginner, I’d go eToro first. You can learn the basics without feeling overwhelmed. Both have low minimum deposits ($100-200), so pick one and start small.

Rebates are automatic once your account is linked through GlobeGain—nothing complicated there.

Account opening differs in speed. eToro handles it in 10-15 minutes with basic verification. AvaTrade takes longer (30-45 minutes) because they require more documentation upfront.

For beginners, eToro’s web platform is simpler. AvaTrade uses MT4, which has a steeper learning curve but is more powerful once you understand it.

The key difference: eToro limits leverage to 1:30 for beginners (EU regulation), AvaTrade allows higher leverage on some accounts. Start with whatever forces lower leverage on you—it’s safer for learning.

Rebates don’t require special setup. Just trade through your link. Focus on learning first, rebates are a bonus, not the main reason to choose a broker.

eToro easier to start. AvaTrade has better features later. Pick eToro as beginner.

eToro simpler. AvaTrade more features. Start with eToro.

One thing beginners miss: test the platform during actual market hours, not just demo. Demos are always smooth. Real trading shows you how responsive the platform actually is.

eToro’s web platform is snappier. AvaTrade’s MT4 can lag on slow connections. If you’re trading on a spotty internet connection, eToro is the safer choice.

Also check their withdrawal process before depositing. Both are straightforward, but knowing how to get your money back reduces anxiety when things don’t go as planned.
