which are historically the worst months for stocks?

Been looking at my trading calendar and trying to figure out patterns.

Seems like certain months always hit different but want to check if there’s actual data backing this up. What months typically see the biggest drops historically?

September and October are brutal. I’ve traded through enough cycles to know this pattern by heart.

September is historically the worst month for the S&P 500. Decades of data show average returns go negative. October gets the scary reputation from the '29 and '87 crashes, but September consistently bleeds worse.

‘Sell in May and go away’ exists for a reason - May through October is weak season.

I scale back equities in late August and pivot to forex through September. Volatility spikes create quick trade opportunities, but position sizing becomes everything.

January and November are the flip side - strongest months of the year.

September’s tough for traders. I keep positions small and ride it out.

October gets wild, but September’s actually worse historically.

I cut back on stocks from May through September and focus on forex pairs that handle uncertainty well.

September’s got solid data showing average negative returns over many years - pretty unusual for any single month.
