what time do futures open sunday and how does it affect trading?

Been trying to figure out the exact Sunday opening times for futures markets.

Noticed some weird price action right when they open and wondering if this creates any decent trading opportunities or if it’s just noise from the weekend gap.

Skip Sunday opens entirely. Volume’s too low - makes trades unpredictable and costs more.

The first 30 minutes after Sunday open? Don’t do it. Spreads go insane and you’ll get crushed on fills.

I got burned trading crude futures this way. Saw a gap down, thought it was free money. Nope - got slipped 15-20 cents because there’s no liquidity.

Now I wait until 8pm EST when things calm down. Real money’s made Monday morning anyway when cash markets open and volume returns.

Want to trade gaps? Limit orders only. Market orders will blow up your account with those spreads.

Futures open Sunday 6 PM Eastern, but each contract’s different.

First hour’s fine if you stick to liquid stuff like ES or NQ - spreads stay decent. Crude and metals get messy with wide spreads though.

I check overnight news for potential gaps but never jump in right at open. Wait 15-20 minutes for things to calm down first.

Most futures open Sunday 6 PM Eastern, but it varies by contract. ES and crude both start at 6 PM, while grains wait until Monday morning. Those opening gaps can be opportunities if you understand the market. Weekend news can cause significant movement with low liquidity - I’ve seen ES move 20-30 points in the first hour alone. Gap fills back to Friday’s close occur about 60% of the time in the first few sessions. Just don’t chase them blindly.

Sunday 6pm EST. Gap fills happen fast then back to normal.
