I want to hear the real talk about IG’s customer support. Not trying to bash them or praise them—just trying to understand what’s actually good about it and what’s actually frustrating.
I’m guessing like most brokers, IG has strengths and weaknesses when it comes to support. Some things probably work well, others probably don’t. Instead of reading sanitized ratings, I’d rather hear what the community actually thinks.
So what are the genuine pros of their support? What can you count on them for? And what are the real cons? Where do they fall short? What issues have you run into?
I’m trying to get a balanced perspective so I can decide if the pros outweigh the cons for my trading style.
Pro: knowledgeable team. Con: slow response during busy times.
Pro: chat usually faster than email. Con: waits still long on news days.
Honest assessment: IG’s support pros—team actually knows their platform, platform stability means fewer technical issues requiring support, they handle withdrawal and regulatory questions clearly. Cons: response times are slow during market hours, email support is underfunded, they don’t offer phone support for most issues, tier-based access means higher-volume traders get better service. Real talk: their support isn’t the problem. Their platform is stable enough that you rarely need support. If you’re the type who trades quietly without needing frequent help, IG works fine. If you’re someone who reaches out constantly with questions, you’ll find them slower than competitors.
Pros: The support team gets back to you eventually and usually fixes the issue. They’re patient even if your question is basic.
Cons: The wait times can be frustrating. You have to use their contact form or chat—no phone support. And if it’s a weekend outside UK hours, don’t expect quick answers.
Pro: competent team. Con: slow during market hours. Pro: usually solves issues. Con: takes time to get there.
Real pros: IG’s support team actually understands the platform and regulations. They don’t just read scripts. When you ask about margin calculations or withdrawal rules, they explain it properly.
Real cons: You can’t reach them by phone for most issues. During volatility, response times become painful. Their FAQ and knowledge base could be better—sometimes they could solve your problem in five minutes if the documentation was clearer.
Biggest thing: IG’s weakness is volume handling, not quality. During calm markets, they’re solid. During FOMC or central bank decisions, forget about getting fast help.
For my trading style—mostly swing trades with occasional scalping—their support is adequate. I base my decision on their platform and rebate terms more than their support. If support was your primary concern, I’d probably look at Swissquote or another EU broker with phone support.
