What are "timeframes" and how do I choose which ones to use for my analysis?

Been trading for a few months but still confused about timeframes. I see people talking about M15, H1, H4, daily charts.

How do you decide which timeframes to focus on? Does it depend on your trading style or the pairs you’re trading?

Timeframes are just different zoom levels of price action. M15 = 15 minutes, H1 = 1 hour, H4 = 4 hours, daily = 24 hours.

I use multiple timeframes together. Daily shows me the big picture trend, H4 for entry zones, then H1 or M15 for precise entries.

Your trading style matters most. Scalping? You’ll live on M5 and M15 charts. Swing trading? H4 and daily work better. Day trading sits between them with H1 and H4.

Don’t overthink it. Pick 2-3 timeframes max or you’ll get analysis paralysis. I learned this the hard way watching 6 different charts and getting conflicting signals.

The currency pair doesn’t change which timeframes to use. It’s about when you plan to enter and exit trades.

Start with the daily chart to understand the main trend. Then use H4 for your trades.

Many beginners jump to lower timeframes and end up confused by whipsaws. The daily chart helps you stay aligned with the overall direction.

If you feel confident, use H1 for more precise entries.

Higher timeframes give clearer signals and less frequent trades. Lower timeframes can create noise but offer more opportunities.

M15 and H1 work fine for most setups.
