I’m getting ready to move some capital to a new broker, and IG keeps coming up as an option. But before I commit, I want to understand their customer support from an actual honest angle—not the marketing version, not the angry complaints, but what real traders actually deal with.
I know every broker has tradeoffs. IG probably does too. Some things they probably handle really well, and other things probably frustrate people regularly. I’d rather know what I’m getting into upfront.
Using GlobeGain to research brokers has helped me see that the best choice isn’t always the flashiest option. It’s usually about understanding what you’re actually paying for and what support quality you’re really getting. So I’m hoping you can break down IG’s support honestly—the actual pros, the actual cons, and maybe compare it to another broker or two so I have context.
What’s your straightforward assessment?
Pro: responsive chat. Con: email is slow.
They’re helpful but not the fastest available.
IG’s real pros: their chat support speaks fluent English, handles technical questions competently, rarely passes you around endlessly. Real cons: they deprioritize non-standard accounts, withdrawal inquiries take longer than they should, no 24/5 phone support during certain hours. Compared to Saxo Bank, IG is faster. Compared to Interactive Brokers, IG’s support is less technical but more accessible. For a retail trader, IG works. Just know your settlement times matter more than speed—they’re consistent but not instant.
I’ll be honest about IG’s support. Pros: they’re actually knowledgeable when you reach them. They don’t give you scripted answers that miss your actual question. When they fix something, it stays fixed.
Cons: timezone matters. If you’re trading outside their main business hours, response times drag. Also, account restrictions or verification delays get handled slowly. I had a withdrawal flag once and it took days to clear up, which was frustrating.
Compared to other brokers I’ve used, IG’s support quality is above average. The speed is medium. They’re not the fastest, but they’re not terrible either.
IG support is decent overall honestly. Nothing amazing but nothing bad either.
Used IG for three years, jumped around to other brokers too. Here’s the real breakdown.
Pros: IG’s support actually understands forex. They don’t talk down to you or act confused when you mention margin or pips. When you contact them about a real problem, they fix it correctly first time usually. Their accountability is solid.
Cons: slow for urgent issues. If your account gets flagged or there’s a compliance hold, response times stretch out to 48 hours or more. Weekends and off-hours are basically dead zones. Also, they prioritize their premium accounts—if you don’t have significant capital with them, you’re lower priority.
Comparison: Saxo Bank’s support is technically superior. OANDA’s support is faster. But IG’s quality is consistent. You get what you pay for without surprises. That matters more than raw speed for most traders. With GlobeGain rebates factored in, the total cost difference shrinks, so support quality becomes a bigger deciding factor for me.
