Scalping tickmill: does the mt4 platform actually hold up better than mt5 for tight spreads?

I’ve been scalping on Tickmill for a few months now, and I’m trying to figure out which platform really gives me an edge. Both MT4 and MT5 are available, but I keep reading conflicting takes online about which one handles the tight spreads better during fast market moves.

My main concern is execution quality. When I’m taking 5-10 pip scalps, even a small delay or slippage can wipe out my profit. I’ve heard MT4 is more stable for scalping because it’s been around longer, but MT5 supposedly has better architecture. I’m also trying to factor in how the GlobeGain rebates work on each platform - wondering if rebate tracking is cleaner on one versus the other.

I want to make an informed choice before I commit to one platform long-term. Has anyone actually tested both on Tickmill and seen a real difference in execution speed, spread consistency, or how rebates get credited? What’s your honest experience been?

MT4 faster for scalping. Less lag on entry execution.

MT5 smoother charts but execution slower. MT4 wins.

Both handle tight spreads fine on Tickmill. Real difference is order execution lag. MT4 has lower latency on most brokers including Tickmill. For scalping 5-10 pips, that 50-100ms delay matters. MT5 gives you more chart tools but costs you in execution speed. Test both with micro positions first. Track your slippage numbers, not feelings. Rebates process the same on both platforms.

I’ve used both on Tickmill and honestly they felt pretty similar for my scalping strategy. The difference came down to the tools I preferred, not the execution itself.

MT4 is simpler to set up custom indicators. MT5 has a cleaner interface for me.

For rebate tracking, I don’t see a difference. GlobeGain credits the same way regardless of platform. Just pick whichever feels more comfortable and test it with small positions.

The platform you choose matters less than your broker’s actual liquidity. I switched from MT5 to MT4 on Tickmill expecting faster execution, but my slippage was about the same.

What changed was when I checked my connection to their server. That made a real difference.

Use the one you’re more comfortable with. Your edge comes from your strategy, not the platform.

Both work fine. MT4 is lighter, MT5 has more features. Most scalpers stick with MT4.

Used MT4 on Tickmill for about two years before switching to MT5. Honestly, the execution difference was minimal. What surprised me was how much my slippage improved when I switched internet providers.

If you’re scalping tight, focus on your connection quality first. Platform second.

For rebates, both work the same. The real edge is consistent execution. Test both for a week on micro lots and measure your average slippage. That data beats any opinion.

I’ve tested both extensively. MT4 has a slight edge for tick data consistency, but MT5’s order management is cleaner. For scalping though, neither matters as much as your broker’s dealing desk behavior.

Tickmill uses an ECN model, so the platform choice is genuinely less important than it is on market maker brokers. Both will execute at the same price.

The real question: do you need advanced charting and analytics? MT5. Do you want simplicity and reliability? MT4. For pure scalping mechanics, they’re equivalent on Tickmill.
