I’ve been leaning toward RoboForex but I’m confused about which account type to open. They offer Standard, Pro, and ECN, and they all have different spreads, commissions, and minimum requirements.
On paper, ECN seems like the best because the spreads are tighter and it’s what professionals use. But it requires a higher minimum deposit and charges commissions on top of spreads. Pro is in the middle. Standard has the highest spreads but no commission.
I’ve read that some beginners start with Standard and regret not choosing Pro, and others say ECN isn’t worth it unless you’re trading high volume. But I don’t know if those people had different goals than me.
My plan is to trade a few pairs, probably scalp and swing trade mixed together, and I have maybe $2000 to start with. I’m not planning to trade massive volume, but I’m not looking to play around either.
Given those constraints, which account type makes the most sense? And how much do rebates through GlobeGain actually change the calculation between these options?
Calculate your true cost for each account type based on your realistic volume.
Let’s say you trade 20 lots per week. Standard might cost 1.0 pip spread on EURUSD. Pro might be 0.8 spread. ECN might be 0.3 spread plus 3 pips commission (0.3 per side).
Weekly cost: Standard 20 pips. Pro 16 pips. ECN 6 pips plus 120 pips commission = 126 pips total. Now add rebates. If GlobeGain gives you 0.5 pips on Standard, that becomes 19.5 pips per week.
For most beginners trading 20 lots weekly, Pro makes sense. Lower cost than Standard, way lower than ECN once you account for commissions.
ECN only wins if you’re trading 100+ lots weekly. At that volume, commissions get recouped by tight spreads. Below that, you’re paying more, not less.
Be realistic about your actual volume before choosing ECN.
Beginners often think they’ll trade high volume, then don’t. They pick ECN because it sounds professional, then their monthly costs triple because the commissions matter at lower volumes.
Start with Pro if you have $2000. Lower spreads than Standard, no commissions, and you can upgrade to ECN later if your volume actually increases. That’s the safer play.
Started with Standard when I began trading RoboForex. Regretted it within weeks.
The spreads were killing me. Switched to Pro after about a month and it made a real difference. For someone trading mixed scalps and swings like you, Pro is the right call.
ECN is overkill for $2000 and beginners. The commissions eat into everything. Once you’re consistently profitable and actually trading 100+ lots monthly, revisit it.
With GlobeGain rebates on Pro, your real cost comes down even more. The rebate doesn’t make ECN cheaper at your volume, but it makes Pro feel like a solid choice.
Pro for $2000. Standard spreads too high. ECN too expensive.
Pro is the safe choice. Standard spreads are tight for beginners. ECN is better only if you trade a lot.
