Platform stability during news events - which brokers actually hold up?

I’ve been trading forex for a couple of years now and I’ve noticed that during major news releases, some brokers just fall apart. Slippage goes crazy, orders don’t execute, platforms lag out completely.

I’m looking at different brokers including Swissquote and I want to know how they actually perform when the markets get volatile. I don’t care about “perfect” execution, but I need a broker that stays functional when things get crazy.

Specifically, what’s been your experience with platform uptime during news events? And how bad has slippage gotten for you?

I’ve also wondered if community discussions actually capture this real-time. Like, during a major release, does anyone post about what’s happening with their broker? I feel like that real-time feedback would be more useful than marketing claims.

What brokers have held up best for you during volatile periods?

Most brokers struggle on news. Slippage is brutal.

ECN brokers handle volatility better than market makers.

Real-time forum posts help identify execution problems fast.

I’ve had mixed experiences with different brokers during news. Some hold up fine, others get ridiculously slow.

I think the real way to know is to open a small account and test it yourself during an actual news event. That’s the only way to see how your specific setup performs.

Forum discussions do help though. When people post right after a big release about what happened, that’s real experience happening live.

I trade specifically during news events so I’ve tested this across several brokers. Here’s what I found.

Swissquote performs okay during moderate volatility but I’ve seen slippage spike significantly during major releases like jobs reports or central bank announcements. Nothing catastrophic, but noticeable.

ECN brokers like IC Markets and FxPro hold up much better because the infrastructure routes you to real liquidity pools. When Swissquote is quoting you, you’re hitting their liquidity, not a market. That’s the difference.

Real-time forum posts help a lot. When multiple traders post about the same broker struggling at the same time, that’s pattern data. It tells you whether the issue is widespread or just individual connection problems.

Best practice: test any broker with a small live account during a scheduled release before committing real capital.
