I’m deciding between MT4 and MT5, and I’m wondering if it actually makes a practical difference on these two brokers. A lot of people say MT5 is better, but I want to know from people actually using them for real trading.
Specifically: does one platform feel more stable during volatile hours? Do your orders execute the same way on both? Are there any real downsides to MT4 that I’d actually notice, or is the hype just marketing?
I trade mostly during London and US sessions, so stability matters to me. What’s been your actual experience using MT4 vs MT5 on AXI or Pepperstone?
Used MT4 on both brokers for years, recently switched to MT5 on AXI. MT5 feels more responsive, especially during news spikes. Order fills are faster. The main practical difference I noticed: MT5 handles large position sizes without lag. Platform stability is similar on both – no crashes on either during regular conditions.
The real edge with MT5 comes from custom indicators and strategy backtesting. But for daily trading, MT4 is just fine. I’d say switch to MT5 if you’re serious about automation or testing strategies. Otherwise, MT4 works.
MT5 faster during news. MT4 does fine otherwise.
Stability difference between MT4 and MT5 on these brokers is minimal. Both platforms perform similarly under normal market conditions. The real difference appears during extreme volatility: MT5 refreshes order data faster, MT4 sometimes lags slightly. For most traders, this difference is negligible. Practical recommendation: if your strategy relies on very tight order timing during news events, MT5 is worth it. For swing trading or regular day trading, MT4 is perfectly stable and often preferred because more indicators are available.
I use MT4 on Pepperstone mostly because that’s what I’m used to. It’s been reliable for my trading. I tested MT5 briefly and it felt slightly snappier, but nothing that changed my results.
Both platforms on both brokers feel stable during my trading hours. The difference, if any, is pretty small.
Both work. MT5 is newer but MT4 is more popular.
One practical issue with MT5: fewer third-party indicators exist compared to MT4. If you use specific custom indicators for your strategy, MT4 might actually be more stable for you because your setup is optimized. Test your own strategy on both before deciding. Stability is less about the platform and more about whether your setup runs smoothly.
Just switched fully to MT5 last month. The order execution is genuinely smoother, especially when I’m scaling in or out of positions. Platform crashes have never happened on either.
Stability-wise, both are solid for this tier of brokers. But if you’re a scalper or day trader who cares about milliseconds, MT5 is the better choice.
Pick MT4 if you like existing setups. MT5 if you want newer features.
