I’m about to open an XTB account and I need to choose between MT4 and MT5. I know the technical differences exist, but what I really care about is: which one doesn’t glitch when you need it most?
Under real trading conditions, does one platform feel noticeably more stable or faster? Are there specific situations where one platform underperforms compared to the other?
I want to hear from actual traders who’ve used both on XTB. What was your experience? Did you switch from one to the other and if so, why? What performance differences did you actually notice?
MT5 faster. MT4 more stable. Pick MT5 if you scalp.
MT4 nobody crashes. MT5 rarely but happens.
On XTB, both platforms are solid, but they serve different needs.
MT5 executes faster and handles more complex order types. If you use pending orders or algorithmic trading, MT5 is better. The platform feels snappier under load too.
MT4 is older but proven stable. Fewer features means fewer things to break. During extreme volatility, MT4 tends to stay responsive longer than MT5.
For most traders: MT5 is the better choice in 2024. XTB’s MT5 implementation is solid, crashes are rare, and execution is tight.
Use MT4 only if you have specific EA or indicator dependencies that only work on MT4. Otherwise, MT5 gives you more flexibility without stability sacrifices.
Used MT4 for my first six months with XTB, then switched to MT5.
MT5 feels cleaner and I can spot prices easier on the charts. Execution feels slightly faster too, though it could be placebo.
I haven’t had crashes on either platform, so stability isn’t a real distinguisher for me. Both work fine. Pick whichever interface you prefer.
MT5 is newer so probably better but MT4 works. No major difference on XTB.
I tested both platforms on XTB for three months each, tracking execution speed and stability.
MT5 connection was fractionally faster. Order confirmation came about 200 milliseconds quicker on average. On scalping trades, that mattered.
Stability: both platforms stayed up through normal trading sessions without issues. I didn’t experience crashes on either. During extreme volatility, both held steady.
Charts and charting tools felt more responsive on MT5. MT4 occasionally lagged slightly when I was running multiple timeframes on the same pair.
My choice: MT5. If you’re building a new setup, MT5 is where brokers are focusing development anyway. XTB supports it well, execution is solid, and the platform won’t feel outdated in two years.
