MT4 vs MT5 on OANDA: which account type actually makes sense when you factor in rebates and commissions?

I’m trying to decide between OANDA’s MT4 and MT5 options, and I realize I don’t fully understand how commissions work on each platform or how GlobeGain rebates apply to both.

From what I’ve gathered, OANDA offers accounts on both MT4 and MT5. My question is whether they both have the same spread structure, or if one is cheaper than the other. And more importantly, do both qualify for GlobeGain rebates?

I know some brokers charge commissions on MT4 or MT5 as an alternative to wider spreads. I’m trying to figure out if OANDA does this too, and if so, whether the math works out different between the two platforms.

Has anyone actually compared the true cost of trading the same pair on OANDA’s MT4 versus MT5, including spreads, commissions, and rebates? I want to know which one actually gives you the better economics before I choose.

OANDA’s structure: Standard accounts use spreads only, no commission. This applies to both MT4 and MT5.

Some brokers offer a commission alternative on one platform but not the other. OANDA doesn’t do this. Both MT4 and MT5 on Standard accounts have the same spread pricing.

So your choice between MT4 and MT5 comes down to platform preference, not cost. MT5 has more order types and features. MT4 is simpler and familiar to most traders.

Both qualify for GlobeGain rebates at the same rates. So cost-wise, there’s no difference. Pick the platform you prefer to use.

If OANDA offers a Premium or VIP account tier with commissions, that’s separate from the Standard accounts. Check which account type you’re actually looking at.

For Standard MT4 and Standard MT5, the cost structure is identical: spreads plus rebates. The platform itself doesn’t change the pricing.

I’d recommend testing both in a demo for a day. See which interface feels more natural to you. Then move forward with that one. The cost difference is zero.

MT4 and MT5 same spreads same rebates just choose.

I use OANDA’s MT5, and the spreads and rebates are the standard rates. No hidden commissions or different pricing between the platforms.

MT5 felt more modern to me when I tested it, so I went with that. MT4 would have cost the same either way.

If you have any experience with either platform already, stick with that one. The transition costs more in learning time than you’d gain from rebates.

OANDA MT4 and MT5 both have the same spreads and rebates. No commission difference between them.

I tested both MT4 and MT5 on OANDA’s demo before funding. The cost structure is exactly the same. Both charge spreads, no commission, same GlobeGain rebate rates apply.

The real difference is in the platform experience. MT5 has more chart tools and order types. MT4 is lighter and faster on older computers.

I chose MT5 because I trade with multiple timeframes simultaneously and the extra chart windows helped. But cost-wise, it makes zero difference.

Whichever you pick, don’t overthink it. The economics are identical.
