I’m planning to use IG and I need to decide between MT4 and MT5. I know the technical differences, but I’m curious about something practical: does the platform you choose actually influence what kind of support issues you’re likely to run into? Like, if I pick MT5, am I going to hit stability problems that force me to contact support? If I stick with MT4, will I be limited in ways that require workarounds that slow me down?
I’m also wondering how IG’s support handles platform-specific issues. If you have a problem with your MT4 terminal, does their support team actually fix it or do they just tell you to update and disappear? Do they understand the differences between the platforms or do they treat both the same?
I want to pick the platform that stays stable so I don’t need to rely on support as much. Which one actually performs better on IG, and does it matter for traders like me who want to trade actively without platform headaches?
MT4 is more stable on IG. MT5 is newer but fewer third party tools.
If you need stability pick MT4 without question here.
IG’s MT4 is rock solid and their support knows it inside and out. MT5 is stable too but fewer tools integrate with it. If you’re an active trader relying on third-party indicators or EA development, MT4 reliability matters more than MT5’s newer features.
IG’s support actually handles platform issues better than most brokers. They’ll remote in if needed. But they handle MT4 issues faster because they’ve been managing it longer.
Platform stability on IG: both are good, but MT4 rarely glitches while MT5 can be slow if you load too many instruments. That said, if you keep your chart setup reasonable, MT5 performs fine. It’s not about which is objectively better - it’s about reducing variables that trigger support interactions.
I use MT4 on IG and I’ve had zero platform issues in two years. Never needed to contact support for anything platform-related. It just works.
I tested MT5 for a few months because I wanted to try the newer features. Functionally fine, but I prefer MT4 because it’s simpler and I know it works without thinking about it.
If you’re not sure, go with MT4. It’s proven and stable. You can always switch to MT5 later if you need specific features. No reason to start with the newer platform if you don’t need it.
MT4 is fine. Most people use it and it works.
I haven’t tried both so I can’t compare them on IG personally.
One thing about IG support and platform choice: if you have an MT4 issue they respond faster. Not because they’re biased, but because they’ve handled thousands of MT4 questions. MT5 is newer so fewer support staff have deep experience with it. It shouldn’t matter if the platform just works, but if you do need support, MT4 gets you answers quicker.
