Mt4 vs mt5 for beginners - what's easier to start with?

I’m overwhelmed by platform choices. MT4 is recommended for simplicity, but MT5 has more tools. For someone just learning to analyze charts and place orders, which platform has a gentler learning curve? Are MT5’s extra features worth the complexity, or should I stick with MT4 until I’m comfortable?

MT4 for orders. MT5 for analysis.

MT4’s interface is simpler for executing basic trades. MT5 adds hedging options and economic calendar integration, but most beginners won’t use these. Stick with MT4 for your first 6 months. Once you’re comfortable with indicators and backtesting, transition to MT5 if needed. Ensure your broker offers rebates for both platforms.

I started with MT4 and switched to MT5 later. The jump wasn’t too bad, but I’d have been overwhelmed doing it all at once. MT4 has enough tools to learn technical analysis. Use MT5’s demo account on the side once you’re confident.

Beginners should use MT4 first.

I teach new traders and always recommend MT4 initially. The automated trading community is larger, so you’ll find more scripts and support. One student tried MT5 first and wasted weeks troubleshooting partial fills on limit orders. MT4’s simplicity lets you focus on strategy, not platform quirks.
