I keep seeing people debate whether to use MT4 on AvaTrade or stick with eToro’s proprietary platform, but most discussions don’t really explain what each platform is actually good for.
I know MT4 is the industry standard for forex, but eToro has built a platform specifically for their broker. I want to understand what the real differences are in actual trading experience.
Things like: Which one is easier to use if you’re newer to trading? Which platform has better charting tools? Can you use automated strategies on one but not the other? How does copy trading work on each platform?
I’m trying to pick the platform that fits my trading style, not the one that everyone else uses. What differences have you actually noticed between MT4 and eToro’s platform when you’re trading?
MT4 powerful. eToro simple. MT4 better for real traders.
eToro copy trading unique. MT4 standard tools. Pick your style.
MT4 more customizable. eToro more beginner friendly overall.
MT4 is designed for traders who want control. You can write custom indicators, automate strategies, and customize everything. The learning curve is steeper, but the capability is much higher.
eToro’s platform prioritizes simplicity. Fewer options, but easier to navigate. It’s built for traders who want to analyze price and execute, nothing more complex.
For copy trading, eToro wins. That feature is only on their platform. For EA trading and custom indicators, MT4 wins.
Pick based on what you actually need to do, not what everyone recommends.
Technical analysis tools matter too. MT4’s charting is solid but not fancy. eToro’s charting is cleaner visually. Both work fine for reading candlesticks and basic indicators.
MT5 is available on AvaTrade too. It’s newer and has some better tools, but most traders still prefer MT4 because it’s so familiar.
Try both with real money. Open accounts and trade for a week on each. The platform feel matters more than technical specs.
I started on eToro and it was comfortable. Simple, clean, easy to understand. Worked well until I wanted to try automated trading.
Switched to MT4 on AvaTrade and it took a bit to get used to. More buttons, more options. But now I like the extra control.
If you just want to pick a pair and trade without getting too technical, eToro’s easier. If you want to build strategies and experiment, MT4 is your platform.
I’ve used both extensively. MT4 is better once you learn it. Charting feels more natural, indicators work smoothly, automation options are endless.
eToro is good if you plan to copy trade other people or you’re new to forex. But if you want to trade your own strategy, MT4 gives you way more to work with.
The copy trading on eToro is useful though. If you’re lazy or still learning, copying experienced traders can work. MT4 doesn’t have that.
Choose based on your actual goals, not just what sounds easier.
One thing people don’t talk enough about: MT4 is more stable when you’re running multiple charts or strategies simultaneously. eToro’s platform gets sluggish if you open too many charts.
If you’re actively trading multiple pairs at once, MT4 handles it better. eToro works fine for single pair focus trading.
This might not matter to beginners, but once you scale up your trading, it becomes noticeable.
