MT4 versus MT5 on HFM - does the platform choice actually affect your total trading costs?

I’m setting up my HFM account and I have to choose between MT4 and MT5. I’ve used both platforms in demo, and they feel pretty similar to me, but I’m wondering if there’s an actual cost difference between the two when you factor in order execution, slippage, and rebates.

Some people online claim MT5 is faster, others say MT4 is more reliable. I’m trying to figure out if platform choice actually impacts how much I’m paying per trade or if it’s just about which interface I prefer.

Specifically: does HFM charge differently for MT4 versus MT5? Do execution speeds differ enough to change my actual trading costs? And do rebates apply the same way on both platforms?

I want to pick the one that’ll minimize my total costs, not just the one with more buttons.

MT4 more stable. Costs same. Pick whatever executes faster for you.

HFM charges the same on both MT4 and MT5. Rebates apply identically. The real difference is execution speed and order placement reliability. I tested both with market orders on EUR/USD and got consistently faster fills on MT5, averaging 3 to 4 milliseconds faster execution. That sounds small, but over 100 trades a month it adds up to maybe 2 to 4 pips total. For most traders, especially beginners, MT4 is more stable and less buggy. The execution difference won’t matter unless you’re scalping or trading high-frequency breakouts. Use MT4 unless you have a specific reason not to.

Costs same on both. MT4 simpler MT5 fancy. Rebates work the same.

I use MT4 with HFM because it’s what I learned on and I like keeping things simple. MT5 has more features, but honestly I don’t use half of them.

From what I can tell, the fees and rebates are exactly the same on both platforms. The execution feels pretty similar too, at least for the trades I do.

I think platform choice matters less than people think. Pick whichever one feels more comfortable to you and focus on your actual trading strategy instead.

I switched from MT4 to MT5 on HFM about a year ago and tested both side by side for about three months.

Costs are identical. Rebates apply the same way. Where I noticed a difference was execution - MT5 felt slightly snappier for market orders, which mattered for my scalping strategy.

But here’s the real thing: if you’re not scalping, the platform won’t make a meaningful difference in your costs. MT4 is simpler and has way more third party tools and indicators available. MT5 is more modern but sometimes glitchy.

I’d say pick MT4 unless you already know you need something MT5 specific. Don’t overthink it.

Both same cost. MT4 less problems. Stick with MT4.
