I’m getting ready to open an FBS account and I keep seeing the choice between MT4 and MT5. Both are available, but I’m not sure which one actually matters for my trading.
I don’t care about the theoretically advanced features that MT5 might have. I want to know what actually works better for real trading - execution speed, platform stability during market spikes, and ease of use.
I’ve heard that MT4 is more stable but older, and MT5 is newer but sometimes has issues. I’ve also heard the opposite from different traders.
My main concern is reliability during live trading. I don’t want to choose a platform and then discover during a volatile market that it has lag or crashes.
I’m mostly trading EUR/USD and GBP/USD with short to medium term holds. I use a few basic indicators and don’t need anything fancy.
Has anyone actually tested both MT4 and MT5 on FBS for actual live trading? What was your experience with stability, speed, and just general reliability? Which one would you recommend and why?
I tested both platforms on FBS live for 2 months each. Here’s what actually mattered:
MT4 was rock solid. I never saw lag, platform never crashed, order execution felt instant. It’s older, but the simplicity kept problems away. Indicators loaded fast, charts were responsive.
MT5 was fine most of the time, but I noticed occasional slowness during major volatility - maybe 2-3 times across my 2 month trial. Nothing catastrophic, but noticeable. Order execution was still fast, just the platform UI felt sluggish.
For your trading style with basic indicators, MT4 is the clear choice. You don’t need MT5’s extra features, and MT4’s stability is better.
The only reason to pick MT5 is if you need hedging capabilities or specific advanced orders. If you’re just trading directional positions, MT4 handles it perfectly and with less headache.
I switched from MT4 to MT5 on FBS about a year ago because I thought the newer platform would be better. Honestly regretted it for a while.
MT4 never gave me problems. MT5 had occasional lag during London open that frustrated me. Eventually switched back to MT4 and haven’t looked back.
For basic trading, MT4 is more stable. MT5 has some nice features if you’re doing complex strategies, but for EUR/USD and GBP/USD trading with standard indicators, you don’t need it.
I’d say go with MT4 unless you specifically need something MT5 offers. Why introduce potential problems?
I use MT4 on FBS and it’s been reliable for me. Platform doesn’t lag, orders execute smoothly, no crashes.
I haven’t actually traded MT5, so I can’t give a direct comparison, but some traders in forums mention MT5 can be slower sometimes.
For what you’re describing - basic indicators, EUR/USD and GBP/USD - MT4 should be more than enough. Go with that unless you hit a specific limitation.
MT4 is more stable on FBS. MT5 occasionally lags but both work fine for regular trading.
MT4 more stable. MT5 newer but sometimes slower.
Use MT4 for your setup just works.
