But I’ve heard the emotional aspect really changes when it’s real money.
So, does anyone feel like demo trading actually prepares you, or is it just a false sense of security?
Demo trading teaches mechanics but misses the biggest challenge - handling fear and greed when your actual money’s on the line. Jump into live trading with tiny amounts, like $50-100 max. You’ll instantly feel the difference when real cash moves against you. That gut punch when a trade turns red? Demo doesn’t come close to that feeling. Use demo for testing strategies and learning your platform. Then move to micro lots with money you’re okay losing completely. The mental game only clicks when you’ve got real skin in the game.
Demo taught me the technical stuff but didn’t prepare me for the mental hell of real trading.
You’ll take insane risks on demo since there’s no real consequence. I made 400% gains on demo and thought I was a genius. Then went live and couldn’t pull the trigger on good setups - too scared of losing.
Start with money that’d genuinely hurt to lose but won’t destroy you. For me, $200. Lost it in two weeks but learned more about my psychology than six months of demo combined.
Demo’s good for learning your platform and testing ideas. But emotions only kick in when you’re watching real money vanish.
