Is Deriv's MT4/MT5 platform actually stable when volatility spikes?

I’m trying to decide between Deriv’s native DTrader platform and their MT4 or MT5 options. I see a lot of posts about platform stability issues, but I’m not sure how much of that is just people venting versus actual technical problems that would affect my trading.

My concern is specifically about what happens during high volatility periods or major news announcements. I’ve had bad experiences on other brokers where the platform just stops responding when I need it most.

Does anyone here actually use Deriv’s MT4 or MT5? What’s your experience been with stability during volatile market moves? Are there specific times or conditions where the platform tends to have issues?

Both MT4 and MT5 stability on Deriv comes down to your local internet connection plus their server infrastructure. The platform itself is solid, but that doesn’t guarantee smooth execution during extreme volatility.

Test it before you trade real money. Open a demo account, trade during high volatility, and watch for requotes, disconnections, or order rejections.

If you’re scalping or trading news events, MT4 is usually more stable than MT5 for entry and exit because it’s simpler and has been battle tested by millions of traders. MT5 has more features but that adds complexity.

Check Deriv’s status page or ask in their community chat what their recent uptime has been.

Test on demo account during news first.

I’ve used both platforms and honestly they both hold up fine during normal volatility. The issue I’ve seen is mostly on the client side, not Deriv’s servers.

If you’re getting platform lag, check your internet connection first. That’s usually the culprit, not the broker.

MT4 feels more responsive to me, but that could just be habit from using it for years.

Most platform issues are internet related. Test the demo during a volatile day and you’ll know pretty quick if it works for you.

I switched from MT5 to MT4 on Deriv specifically because during news events, MT5 would occasionally lag when placing orders. This happened to me about three times over six months.

MT4 has been rock solid. I’ve traded through dozens of news events without any platform problems.

That said, your broker setup and internet matter as much as Deriv’s infrastructure. I’m on a wired connection with decent bandwidth. If you’re on mobile or weak WiFi, you’ll have problems on any broker.

MT4 more stable than MT5 from experience.

One practical thing: run Deriv MT4 alongside a reliable news feed or economic calendar. During major releases, keep an eye on your charts and order status in real time. If you see latency or freezing, note the time and conditions.

Report issues directly to Deriv support with timestamps. They actually care about this data and can help identify if it’s their infrastructure or something on your end.
