Been backtesting different setups but keep getting mixed results with MACD signals.
Tried adjusting the periods but still seeing too many false breakouts. What timeframes work best for you guys when trading MACD crossovers?

MACD’s way more reliable on 4H or daily charts. Skip the basic crossovers - histogram divergence gives you much better entries.
This video has some solid MACD setups for backtesting.
False breakouts destroyed my MACD strategy for months. Started combining it with volume spikes - way cleaner entries now.
I skip all signals during major news. MACD gets crushed when volatility goes crazy.
Default 12-26-9 settings work great for EUR/USD. Had to switch to 8-17-9 for GBP pairs though - they move too fast for the standard setup.
Try looking at MACD zero line bounces instead of crossovers. Less noise and catches the bigger moves.
Skip most MACD signals - they’ll burn you. Wait for price to actually break support/resistance in the same direction as the crossover. That filters out tons of fake-outs. Crossovers above zero are good for riding trends. Below zero? Usually not worth it unless you’re catching a big reversal. Backtest this strategy across different markets. MACD behaves differently in trends compared to choppy conditions.
Never trade MACD alone. Always need price confirmation first.
MACD works better as a momentum filter than your main signal.
I use it to confirm what price action’s already telling me. When I see a good setup and MACD backs the trend, I’ll take the trade.
The histogram beats the lines every time. When it starts flattening out, momentum’s usually dying.
