I’m evaluating IC Markets partly based on their platform stability. I use MT4 for most of my trading, but I’m open to switching to MT5 if it offers better performance.
My main concerns:
- How often does the platform go down or have connection issues?
- Does MT4 or MT5 perform better on IC Markets specifically?
- Are there any lag issues during high volatility when you need execution speed most?
- Have you ever lost trades or had positions closed unexpectedly due to platform problems?
- How’s the charting and technical analysis functionality?
I’ve had bad experiences with brokers where the platform crashes at critical moments or where server lag causes slippage. That’s completely unacceptable when real money is on the line.
I’m also trying to understand how platform reliability ties into overall broker dependability. If IC Markets can’t keep their MT infrastructure stable, what does that say about their other operations?
What’s your experience with IC Markets’ platforms? Would you trust them with consistent trading, or do you worry about technical issues?
MT5 works fine. No crashes. Server connection stable daily.
Platform rarely goes down. Better than other brokers I’ve used.
IC Markets’ MT4 and MT5 platforms are both stable. Real-world uptime is around 99.8%.
MT5 is technically superior: faster charting, better optimization, native algorithmic capabilities. But if you only use MT4 features, you won’t notice a difference.
Server lag during volatility: minimal. I’ve tested during major news events – execution speed stays consistent at 200-500ms.
Charting tools are standard MT functionality. Nothing impressive, nothing broken.
One technical detail: IC Markets uses separate servers for different account types. ECN accounts route directly to market. Standard accounts go through their dealing desk. Both are stable.
Downtime is extremely rare. They do maintenance updates after market close on Sunday, which is professional.
Decision: If you’re already comfortable with MT4, stick with it. If switching to MT5, do it. Both work solidly on their infrastructure.
I switched from another broker to IC Markets partly because their MT5 seemed more stable.
Honestly, it’s been solid. No crashes, no lag issues that I’ve noticed. Charts load quickly, orders execute fast.
The platform feels reliable, which matters when you’re trying to focus on trading instead of worrying about technical problems.
I’d say it’s dependable for serious trading.
MT5 is stable. Almost never goes down. Good enough for daily trading without stress.
Used IC Markets’ MT5 almost exclusively for the past 18 months. Here’s my assessment:
Uptime is excellent. In 18 months, I can count maybe 2-3 brief disconnections, each under 30 seconds. That’s industry standard.
Server speed during normal trading: fast, no complaints. During NFP and other major events, I noticed maybe 100-200ms additional lag, but nothing that affected my orders.
Charting performance is smooth. I run 15+ indicators on multiple timeframes simultaneously with no slowdown.
One advantage: IC Markets’ MT5 lets you trade directly on the platform without needing additional software. That’s convenient.
Comparison: stability is comparable to Pepperstone and better than some smaller brokers. FxPro’s platforms are slightly snappier, but IC Markets is close.
Truth: platform stability isn’t a reason to avoid IC Markets. If anything, their infrastructure is a selling point. I’d be comfortable using them for scalping or day trading without worrying about technical issues.
