Been tracking my results across different brokers lately and the numbers are pretty eye-opening.
Same exact trades, but the cost differences really add up over time. Makes me wonder if I should completely rethink my approach based on what I’m actually paying.
Trading costs hit my strategy harder than I expected.
I stopped chasing small moves and switched to bigger swings because my broker’s commissions killed quick trades.
Now I only take setups worth at least 15-20 pips after fees. Completely changed my timeframes and how I manage risk.
High spreads made me way pickier about entries. I wait for solid setups instead of taking every trade I see.
Costs can kill a decent strategy real quick.
Your strategy has to make enough to cover broker fees and still leave you with solid profits. Scalping for 2-5 pips? Even half a pip extra spread will destroy you. Swing trading with 50+ pip targets? You can handle higher costs no problem. I’ve watched winning systems become complete losers just because someone switched to an expensive broker. Do the math - figure out your average profit per trade and keep broker costs under 20% of that.
