Been considering my approach to exits. I generally close out positions entirely, but I’m curious if taking partial profits is a better strategy.
Do many of you take off 50% at your initial target and adjust stops on the remaining?
Partial profits are effective if your risk-reward is right. I usually take 40% at 1.5R and let the rest run with a trailing stop. Avoid closing too early; you might miss out on larger gains. With 1:1 targets, closing half means you’re just breakeven. Make sure the remaining position has the chance to generate profit. Monitor your full versus partial exits across various trades to determine what yields the best results.
I take thirds at resistance levels - works way better than halves.
Depends on the trade, but I usually close 30% at my first target and move my stop on what’s left.
If price hits a major level, I’ll take off more. I keep some position running to catch bigger moves.
