Been trading for a while but still fumble with basis points conversions during fast market moves.
Need a quick mental trick or formula that doesn’t require me to think too hard when I’m watching multiple positions.

Just divide by 100. So 50 bps = 0.5%. Easy to remember when you’re trading.
Stick a note on your monitor with the common ones until they become second nature.
I use the divide by 100 method too, but I’ve also memorized the common ones you see all the time.
25 bps = 0.25%, 50 bps = 0.50%, 100 bps = 1.00% - these pop up constantly during trading hours.
Weird numbers like 73 bps? I just convert to 0.73% on the fly. Gets me close enough to make quick decisions, then I can dial it in when things slow down.
I use the 100 rule - just drop your bps number by 100.
75 bps = 0.75%. 150 bps = 1.50%. Done.
I’ve been doing this for years during news events and it never fails. Way better than trying to remember decimal moves when EUR/USD’s going crazy.
Practice it when markets are closed so it becomes automatic. I used to screw up conversions during volatile sessions and it killed my position sizing.
Move the decimal two spots left. 250 bps = 2.50%. Way faster when markets are moving quick. I’ve got a mental chart for the common ones: 25 bps = 0.25%, 50 bps = 0.50%, 100 bps = 1.00%. Most forex moves hit these ranges. Quick estimates? Round first, then convert. Like 127 bps rounds to 130 bps = 1.30%. Good enough for position sizing.
I just think of bps as cents of a percent.
