How do you analyze the "strength" of a currency against all others?

I’ve been trading for a few months now and I keep hearing traders talk about currency strength analysis. Like they’ll say “USD is strong today” or “JPY is showing weakness across the board.”

I understand how to look at individual pairs like EUR/USD or GBP/JPY, but I’m confused about how you actually measure one currency’s strength against ALL the other major currencies at once.

Is there a specific tool or method you use to see this? I’ve seen some currency strength meters online but I’m not sure if they’re reliable or how they actually calculate the strength.

Also, when you identify that a currency is particularly strong or weak, how do you use that information to pick which pairs to trade? Do you look for the strongest currency against the weakest one?

Any guidance would be really helpful. I feel like understanding this concept could really improve my trade selection.

Currency strength meters work but they’re too slow for me. Every one I’ve tested shows yesterday’s moves, not what’s happening now.

I just track currencies against a basket myself. Pick 6-7 majors and see how each performs against the others across different timeframes.

Like if USD is beating EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD, and CAD all at once - that’s real USD strength. Only strong against one pair? Probably just weakness in the other currency.

I use this to find the strongest currency and pair it with the weakest. But timing’s everything - sometimes you’re already too late.

Always check multiple timeframes. Currency might look strong on 4H but be tanking on the daily. Check both before you enter.

Don’t chase strength that’s already stretched - learned this the hard way. Wait for a pullback or find the next setup. FOMO trades based on strength analysis burned me tons of times when I started.

Most strength indicators just average the major pairs like USD/EUR, USD/GBP, USD/JPY. It’s a good starting point for analysis.

I check the DXY against individual pairs. If DXY is rising but EUR/USD barely drops, that indicates strength in EUR against others.

It’s important to watch how pairs react to news as well. When all USD pairs move together after data releases, it shows broad USD movement.

I choose currencies with strength across multiple timeframes and pair them with clear weaknesses. It’s best to wait for solid entry setups rather than jumping in immediately.
