I’ve been looking at IG’s platform specifications and they talk a lot about stability and uptime guarantees. But claims on a website are one thing. What actually happens when the market is moving fast and everyone’s trying to trade at the same time?
I’ve had experiences with brokers where the platform works fine 95% of the time, but during economic news releases or major market moves, things slow down, orders get delayed, or the platform becomes unresponsive. That’s when platform stability actually matters.
I want to know from people who’ve actually traded on IG during volatile periods: Does their MT4 or MT5 platform actually hold up? Are orders executed on time or do you experience slippage and delays? Does the platform ever lag or become unresponsive?
Also, have you compared IG’s stability to other brokers? IC Markets, FxPro, and others claim similar uptime percentages, but I suspect the real experience varies quite a bit.
If you’ve tested IG during news events or high-volatility sessions, what was your actual experience? Any platform crashes, order execution issues, or delays I should know about before I commit to trading with them?
IG’s platform handles volume reasonably well.
During NFP releases I’ve seen slippage increase.
IG’s platform infrastructure is solid, but execution quality during volatility is where the real test happens.
During normal market conditions, MT4 and MT5 perform consistently. Order entry is fast, charts are responsive. But during high-volume events like NFP, central bank decisions, or major economic data, I’ve observed measurable slippage increases.
I tracked execution quality across five brokers including IG during the last three major news events. IG’s average slippage during these events was 1.2 pips on EUR/USD entries. FxPro averaged 0.8 pips. IC Markets averaged 1.5 pips.
The platform itself doesn’t crash, but the order queue backs up. Your market orders take 200-500 milliseconds longer to execute. That’s the real cost, not platform downtime.
Comparison: FxPro’s infrastructure handles volume better because they have better liquidity aggregation. IG routes through fewer liquidity providers, so when volume spikes, execution suffers.
TL;DR: IG’s platform is stable for normal trading. For news event scalping or high-frequency trading, look elsewhere. For swing traders and position traders, IG’s stability is fine.
IG’s platform is stable. No major issues for me.
I’ve traded IG for two years specifically testing platform stability during volatile periods. Here’s what I’ve found.
Normal market conditions: IG’s platform is solid. Orders execute cleanly, no lag, charts are responsive. I haven’t experienced downtime.
During news events: This is where differences emerge. I tracked execution on the same strategy across IG and FxPro during twelve major news events.
IG’s platform stayed online both times, but order execution slowed noticeably. On volatile GBP pairs during the March 2023 banking crisis, my orders were taking 800 milliseconds instead of the normal 150 milliseconds. That’s a significant delay.
FxPro handled the same conditions with consistent 200-400 millisecond execution times. The platform difference matters.
Is IG’s platform unstable? No. Is it optimized for volatile conditions? Also no.
For swing trading and normal day trading, IG is fine. For scalping during news events, you want better execution. Pick your broker based on your actual trading style.
FxPro handles volatility better than IG does.
