FBS MT4 versus MT5: does platform choice actually change your trading efficiency?

I’m almost ready to open an account with FBS, and I’m realizing I haven’t really thought about whether to use their MT4 or MT5 platform. I know both are available, but I’m not sure if the choice actually matters for my trading or if it’s just preference.

I do mostly swing trading with occasional day trading sessions. I don’t use automated strategies or EAs yet, so I’m not sure if that changes which platform makes more sense. I also want to know if one platform integrates better with GlobeGain rebates or if that’s the same on both.

Does platform stability vary between MT4 and MT5 on FBS? Can you actually trade the same instruments on both, or are there differences? And honestly, does customer support quality differ at all depending on which platform you’re using?

I’ve heard people say MT5 has more features, but I want to know what that actually means for a regular trader’s experience.

For people using FBS on either platform, what’s your real experience with platform performance, tool availability, and support quality?

MT4 more stable. MT5 has features you won’t use.

MT4 easier. MT5 newer but not better really.

Platform choice depends on your specific strategy, not just preference.

MT4 advantages: more third-party indicator availability, simpler interface, stronger community support, compatibility with most EAs if you decide to automate later.

MT5 advantages: better multi-asset support if you trade beyond forex, slightly faster processing, built-in economic calendar.

For swing trading like you mentioned, either works. MT4 is simpler, so start there. If you eventually want to test automated strategies, MT4 has way more EA options available.

Rebates integrate the same on both platforms through GlobeGain. Your true cost per trade is identical.

FBS stability is solid on both. If you notice lag, it’s usually client-side (your internet or computer), not the platform.

My actual recommendation: MT4 for beginners and swing traders. MT5 if you’re managing multiple asset classes.

I use MT4 on FBS because it felt more intuitive when I started. I’ve been with FBS for about a year now, and I’ve never felt like switching to MT5 would improve my trading.

The interface on MT4 is straightforward, and I can find all the tools I need. Support quality is the same regardless of which platform you choose.

If you’re just starting out with swing trading, honestly MT4 is the easier path. You can always switch later if you find you need MT5’s features.

Both platforms work. MT4 if you prefer simplicity. MT5 if you want newer features.

I tested both MT4 and MT5 on FBS for a few months each before settling on MT4.

MT5 has some nice features, but honestly for my swing trading style, I wasn’t using them. The extra complexity just meant more time figuring out where things were.

MT4 has a simpler layout, which means faster order placement and less chance of accidentally clicking the wrong thing during volatile moments.

Performance-wise, both are stable on FBS during the hours I trade. I never experienced crashes or significant lag on either platform.

If you end up wanting to test EAs down the road, MT4 has way more options. That’s actually the biggest practical difference between them. MT5 is catching up, but MT4 is still the standard for automated strategies.
