Does IG support quality actually matter more than the rebate percentage you're getting?

I’m trying to think through a decision between two scenarios, and I’m not sure how to weigh them against each other.

Scenario A: Use IG with decent rebates through GlobeGain but potentially slower customer support when things go wrong.

Scenario B: Use a different broker with slightly lower rebate rates but consistently faster, more responsive support based on what I’ve heard from other traders.

On paper, the rebates from Scenario A look better month to month. But if support delays cost me in terms of missed trades, clarification on margin calls, or withdrawal timing, how much is that actually worth compared to the cash back I’m getting?

I’m trying to figure out if there’s a threshold—like, at what point does support quality become more valuable than an extra 10 basis points in rebates?

How do you weigh this trade-off in your own decisions? Does support speed actually influence your broker choice, or do you optimize purely for rebates and accept the support limitations?

Slow support costs more than you’d get back in rebates.

Test support first cash back second every time.

Bad support during volatility costs you real trading losses.

Calculate your actual breakeven. If you trade 100 lots per week, a 0.5 pip rebate difference equals about $50 per week. Now ask: how much has slow support cost you historically? A single missed margin call clarification or delayed withdrawal can cost multiples of that. For most traders, support quality outweighs rebate percentage. You optimize rebates only after support meets your baseline standard.

The real issue: you don’t feel slow support until volatility hits. That’s when you need answers fast. Better support might cost you 5 basis points in rebates but saves you from panic during market chaos. I recommend this—pick a broker with solid support first, then maximize rebates within that choice, not the other way around.

It depends on your trading style. If you’re holding positions overnight and trading around news, support matters way more. If you’re swing trading, rebates might outweigh support importance.

Honestly it’s hard to say without trying both. I use IG and rebates are good enough that I tolerate slower support.

After eight years of trading, I’ve learned that this isn’t actually a rebate versus support question. It’s a risk management question. Slow support increases your operational risk. A broker with better support lets you trade with more confidence during stressful conditions, which actually improves your decision-making and profitability.

I’d estimate good support is worth at least 20-30 basis points in rebates, because it lets you execute without second-guessing and handle unexpected situations faster.

If you’re a beginner support matters more. If you’re experienced you can probably handle slower support.
