I’m going through a withdrawal with IG right now and it’s taking longer than expected. The timeline they gave me initially doesn’t seem to match reality, and their support responses about when I’ll actually see the money are vague.
I know withdrawal delays are a common frustration with brokers, but what I really want to understand is whether this is just how IG operates, or if I’m missing something in the process. Are there specific steps or documentation that actually makes withdrawals faster? Are there common mistakes people make that cause delays?
I’m also curious what actually tells you whether a broker is reliable before you hit send on a withdrawal. People here have real experience with multiple brokers and actual withdrawal outcomes. Has anyone documented what their withdrawal timelines actually look like across different brokers? And more importantly, when you’re stuck in a withdrawal delay, what’s actually helped you get it resolved—community guidance, specific documentation, escalation tactics?
IG withdrawal delays usually fall into two categories: verification holds and processing queues.
Verification holds happen when they flag your account for additional checks. Typically KYC or AML issues. What speeds this up: send clear documentation upfront. Don’t wait for them to request it. Bank statement, ID copy, proof of address. Make their job easy.
Processing queues are different. IG batches withdrawals, especially larger amounts. Bank transfer takes 3-5 business days from their end, then your bank’s processing time. ACH or other methods vary.
The real insight: contact them with specific dates and amounts before you withdraw. Ask them directly what their timeline is for your withdrawal method. Document their response. If they say 3-5 days and it’s been 7, escalate with that documentation.
Also verify your banking details are correct before submission. Typos create holds and delays.
Had this happen to me last year. Withdrawal got stuck for 9 days and IG’s support was giving me the runaround.
What actually worked: I posted about it here first. Someone mentioned that IG sometimes puts holds on withdrawals if your trading pattern suddenly changes. Apparently if you’ve been scalping small amounts and suddenly withdraw a large chunk, their system flags it.
Once I understood that, I contacted support explaining my trading history and asked them directly if that was the issue. They confirmed it was. Asked me to confirm the withdrawal was legitimate and approved it within 24 hours.
The lesson I learned: the community often knows the actual reasons for delays before IG’s support will tell you. They speak in patterns and actual experiences. Use that to get specific answers from support instead of fighting through their generic responses.
I’ve had good withdrawal experiences with IG overall, but I know the waits can be frustrating.
One thing that helped me understand the process better was talking to other traders here about what they’ve experienced. Most delays seem to come from verification steps, not the actual transfer. So if you make sure your account documentation is completely correct and submitted before you initiate the withdrawal, you can avoid a lot of the back and forth.
It’s not glamorous advice, but getting ahead of their verification requirements seems to prevent most delays.
My withdrawals processed in 5 days. Some people report longer. Not sure what the difference is.
Also, the GlobeGain rebates actually help offset the frustration of withdrawal delays. While you’re waiting, you’re still earning cashback on your trades. It doesn’t solve the withdrawal timing issue, but it makes the overall broker experience less painful when delays happen. Knowing I’m still getting value even when their support is slow takes some of the sting out.
