I’ve been looking at opening a RoboForex account and there are so many options - Standard, Pro, ECN. Everyone seems to recommend something different depending on who you ask.
What I’m really trying to figure out is which one actually makes sense when you calculate your real costs. I know spreads differ between account types, but I’m wondering how much that actually matters once you factor in commissions and then apply rebates through GlobeGain.
I trade mostly EUR/USD and GBP/USD on a swing trading basis, so I’m not scalping and I’m not holding forever either. The Standard account has tighter spreads but higher commissions on some pairs. The Pro account seems like the middle ground. And the ECN account sounds like it should be cheaper overall but the commission structure is different.
Has anyone actually sat down and calculated what you’re paying per lot across these account types after everything is included? Like, spread plus commission minus your actual rebate amount? I want to avoid picking an account type that looks cheaper on paper but turns out costing more in reality.
The math here matters more than most traders realize. Here’s what I’d recommend: calculate your cost per lot on each account type using your actual trading volume and pair selection.
For swing trading on major pairs, the Pro account usually wins. Standard spreads look good but commissions add up fast. ECN accounts cost less only if you trade enough volume to justify the commission structure.
Use GlobeGain’s rebate rates in your calculation. If you trade 10 lots per week on EUR/USD, that rebate compounds. Test with 2-3 micro lots on your preferred account type first. Real execution matters more than theoretical spreads.
I tested this myself about a year ago. Started on Standard, switched to Pro after a few weeks.
Standard account looked cheaper initially but my actual costs were higher. Pro has slightly wider spreads but the commission structure for my trading style made the bigger difference. Once I added the GlobeGain rebates, Pro came out about 15-20% cheaper per trade.
The real advantage of Pro for swing traders like us is consistency. You know what you’re paying, and the rebates stack up more predictably. ECN would be overkill unless you’re trading more than 50 lots per week.
I went through the same comparison a few months back. What helped me was creating a simple spreadsheet with my typical trades and calculating the total cost on each account type.
Standard felt safe but Pro actually worked out cheaper for my style. The thing is, the difference isn’t massive - maybe $10-20 per week depending on volume. But that adds up over time, especially with rebates.
I’d say pick one and trade for a couple weeks with small amounts. That’s the only way to see what really fits your trading pattern.
Pro account seems to work best for most swing traders. Standard charges too much in commissions overall.
Pro account wins for swing traders most times.
Spreadsheet your costs then test with real trades.
