I trade around economic news releases and I’m worried about whether IG’s customer support can actually help if something goes wrong during volatile market conditions. When spreads blow out or orders behave unexpectedly, that’s when I’d need fast, accurate support.
I’ve read that some traders had issues with IG during major volatility events, but I want to know what actually happened. Was it platform problems they couldn’t solve? Support too slow to help during the move? Or something else entirely?
I’m trying to understand whether IG’s support infrastructure actually holds up when markets get seriously active, or if I should look at brokers with proven track records for handling those situations better.
Has anyone here dealt with IG’s support during a major news event like an NFP or central bank decision? What did you need support for and did they actually solve it in time?
Caught a bad spread spike during NFP with IG last year. Called their support looking for an explanation or rollback. Hold time was 20+ minutes and the agent couldn’t do anything about it anyway.
That’s when I realized their support isn’t really built for real-time market problems. They’re good for account setup questions but weak during actual trading incidents.
Now I use brokers where I know the platform is stable during news, so I don’t have to rely on emergency support. IG’s market makers, so slippage during news is kind of the model anyway.
News events expose which brokers have actual operational readiness versus surface-level support. Here’s what matters: Can they execute emergency orders? Can they adjust settings during volatility? Can they override platform locks?
Most market maker brokers like IG struggle here because their model includes widened spreads during news. Their support can’t fix that. ECN brokers handle this better because they don’t widen spreads artificially.
If news trading is your style, IG might not be your best option regardless of support quality.
I’ve traded through a few news events with IG. Their support was available, but honestly, they can’t do much about market conditions. They’re just following their policies on slippage and spreads.
What helped me was understanding their policies beforehand, so I knew what to expect and didn’t waste time asking support to change something they can’t change.
That’s the real key: know their rules and trade according to them, don’t hope support will fix it if things go wrong.
IG can’t fix market conditions. Platform just locks up.
Their support gets busy during major events. Took me a while to reach anyone.
Check GlobeGain’s broker comparison for IG’s platform stability rating during news. That matters more than support responsiveness. Stable platform means fewer support issues needed in the first place.
Test small. See what happens yourself.
Most brokers have problems during NFP. IG is no different.
The real tell: does their support acknowledge platform stress and give you realistic timelines, or do they pretend everything is normal? Honest support during chaos is better than silence.
