I’m at the stage where I’m narrowing down my broker choice, and I want to make sure I’m picking someone that won’t leave me hanging when I actually need help. I’ve been reading a lot about IG Broker, but I also see traders mentioning other platforms like FP Markets, IC Markets, and some of the EU regulated ones.
The thing is, most broker comparison articles just list features and spreads. They don’t really talk about what it’s actually like to contact support when something breaks. I want to know which brokers are reliable when you really need them.
Has anyone here actually switched from one broker to another because of support issues? What made you decide the new one was better? And are there specific brokers you’d avoid because their support was a nightmare?
IG good for support IC Markets cheaper.
FP Markets solid but slower than IG.
I’ve used all three. Here’s what matters.
IG Broker: Reliable, English-speaking team, usually responds within hours. Best for beginners who want peace of mind. Spreads are wider than competition though.
IC Markets: Tighter spreads and faster execution, but support is thinner. You get answers but sometimes it takes 24 hours. Good if you know what you’re doing.
FP Markets: Middle ground. Better spreads than IG, better support than IC. I used them for scalping and had no real issues.
Regulation matters less than execution consistency. All three are legitimate. Pick based on your trading style, not just support alone.
Don’t make support your only deciding factor. I’ve seen traders pick brokers purely on support quality and then get frustrated with slippage or platform issues.
Spread plus rebates usually matters more than support response time. You need good support, sure. But good execution prevents most support issues in the first place.
I switched from IG to IC Markets about six months ago because I wanted tighter spreads. The support at IC is actually fine, just takes a bit longer sometimes.
IG was smoother for getting quick answers, but honestly once you learn how things work, you don’t need support that often anyway.
FP Markets has been solid for me. I never had a big issue where I needed emergency support, but when I had questions about their account types they answered pretty quickly.
I think IG is safer if you’re brand new because their support is more responsive. But as you get comfortable trading, it matters less.
Used IG and FP Markets. Both fine. IG a bit faster.
I’ve traded with IG, IC Markets, and FP Markets over the last five years. Here’s my take.
IG Broker is the broker support I’d recommend to someone still learning. They’re not the fastest, but they communicate clearly and actually help you understand what’s happening. That matters when you’re new.
Once you have some experience, IC Markets becomes more valuable because you’re not relying on support as much. You know what to do. And their lower costs make a real difference over time.
FP Markets sits between them. Decent spreads, decent support, but they don’t really excel at either. I used them for a while but didn’t see a reason to stay.
One thing I wish I’d known earlier: regulation doesn’t tell you much about support quality. I’ve traded with CFTC regulated brokers with terrible support and less regulated ones with great support.
What actually tells you about support reliability is whether they have local phone numbers, live chat during your trading hours, and real people answering (not bots). Check those three things and you’ll get a much better sense of which broker actually supports traders.
