Comparing IC Markets' MT4 and MT5 stability - which platform actually works better when you need it?

I’m evaluating IC Markets and I need to pick between MT4 and MT5 for my scalping and swing trading setup. I know both are available, but I want to understand which one is actually more stable during the times when I really need it - when volatility is up or when I’m holding a key position.

I’ve heard MT5 has more features but MT4 is more lightweight and reliable. Is that true on IC Markets specifically? Are there any stability differences depending on what you’re trading, or is one platform clearly better?

Also curious how platform stability affects your real trading cost. If MT5 freezes during a sudden move and you miss your exit, that impacts your bottom line more than any spread difference. Has anyone on the forum experienced this with IC Markets, and how did it affect your trades?

If you’re using GlobeGain rebates with IC Markets, does the platform you choose affect your rebate payouts or tracking?

Both MT4 and MT5 on IC Markets are stable. The difference is your use case. MT4 is simpler, lighter, faster to open charts. MT5 has more order types and strategy options, but uses more memory.

For scalping, especially during news, MT4 feels slightly snappier. The order execution interface is faster. MT5 on IC Markets handles swing trading perfectly fine.

I’ve seen one issue over three years on MT5 - platform froze for about 2 minutes during a major spike. This was rare. Both platforms have built in stability, with automatic reconnection if your connection drops.

Rebates track the same way regardless of platform. GlobeGain logs your trades from either interface without issues.

Test both for a week with demo. You’ll feel the difference immediately.

I use MT4 on IC Markets for my setup and it’s been solid. No freezes or crashes that I’ve noticed.

I chose MT4 mostly because it’s simpler and I’m used to it. MT5 is probably fine too, but I haven’t seen a reason to switch.

The stability seems the same as other brokers I’ve used. Nothing special, but nothing bad either.

MT4 faster for scalping. MT5 fine for anything else.

Both seem stable. MT4 simpler, MT5 has more features. Pick based on preference.

No major crashes on either platform. Both reliable.
