I’m in the early stages of choosing a broker and I keep seeing IG mentioned alongside FP Markets, IC Markets, and Swissquote. On paper they all look similar—regulations, platforms, spreads are all in the same ballpark. But what I really want to understand is how their customer support actually stacks up in real situations.
I know that spreads and rebates matter, but honestly, I’m more concerned about reliability when something goes wrong. I’m not interested in theoretical comparisons—I want to know what you’ve actually experienced.
Have you used any of these brokers and switched between them because of support issues? Or stayed with one because their support was consistently better? What specific situations tested their support the most?
Support reliability differs more than most traders realize. Over 15 years, I’ve tracked this across platforms.
IG: Solid regulation, but support is account-tier dependent. Standard retail accounts get slower treatment. Response times 24-48 hours email, live chat during London hours.
IC Markets: Faster than IG. Typical email response 12-18 hours. Their dedicated support for active traders is noticeably better.
Swissquote: EU regulated, premium support focus. Fastest response times, but higher fees overall. Better for traders who value responsiveness over cost.
FP Markets: ASIC regulated (Australia). Responsive support but regulatory complexity across regions.
Bottom line: If support responsiveness drives your broker choice, Swissquote edges ahead. If you want balance between cost and support, IC Markets wins. IG works if you don’t need instant help and prefer lower costs.
Tested all four over the past few years. Here’s what I actually found.
IC Markets support replied fastest when I had platform issues. Probably because their main market is scalpers and day traders who need quick answers. Their account manager reached out proactively once when I contacted support, which was different.
IG felt more bureaucratic. Slower, but more formal and less likely to make mistakes in their responses.
Swissquote gave me premium support from day one, but honestly, I didn’t need it that often. Their help desk was faster, but the extra costs weren’t worth it for my strategy.
FP Markets fell somewhere in the middle. Decent support, decent response times, but their platform felt clunky compared to the others.
Ended up sticking with IC Markets. The combination of execution quality plus responsive support made the difference for me.
I’ve used IG and FP Markets side by side for a few months. Not a huge sample size, but here’s what stood out.
IG’s support felt more distant. They answer your questions but don’t really go beyond what you asked. FP Markets support seemed more willing to explain context around issues.
Both took similar time to respond, but the quality of the answer felt different. With FP Markets, I felt like the support person actually understood my trading situation. With IG, it felt like they were reading a script.
That said, I’ve never had a major crisis with either, so I can’t speak to how they handle real emergencies. For regular account questions, FP Markets gave me more confidence.
Used IG and IC Markets. IC Markets support responded faster. IG okay but took longer. Both work fine for basic stuff. IC Markets felt more helpful though.
IC Markets support faster than IG. Swissquote premium but expensive. FP Markets middling.
Not much to complain about from any of them honestly. IG solid, IC Markets also good. Swissquote if you want to pay extra.
