I’m trying to understand how well IG handles the stress times that actually matter—when news hits and volatility spikes. It’s easy to trade when markets are calm. The real test is what happens when NFP comes out or there’s a major Fed announcement.
I want to know two things: first, does IG’s platform actually stay stable, or do you see slippage, requotes, and platform lag? Second, when things do go sideways, is their support actually helpful or do they just tell you it’s normal market conditions?
I’m considering them partly because of their rebate integration with GlobeGain, but I need to know if the actual trading experience holds up when it matters. Have you tested them during high-volatility periods? What actually happens to your order execution? And if something messes up, can you actually get support to help you understand what happened?
I don’t want to find out the hard way by funding an account and losing money due to platform issues or getting stuck with bad execution and no support.
IG platform stays up during news. Slippage happens but normal.
Support acknowledges volatility but explains issues fairly.
IG’s platform infrastructure is solid. During major news releases, their servers handle the volume well. You won’t see platform crashes or trading breaks like you might with smaller brokers. What you will see: wider spreads and increased slippage on orders. That’s normal and unavoidable with any broker during these events. Their support stance is that they acknowledge volatility but don’t compensate for slippage. That’s honest, unlike brokers that promise fixed spreads during news. If you’re trading news volatility, widen your stop losses and expect worse execution. IG’s support will explain this clearly if you ask.
I’ve traded through several NFP releases with IG. The platform held up fine both times. I did see wider spreads and my stop losses got hit faster than expected, but that’s just how volatile markets work.
Their support wasn’t super helpful when I complained about the slippage, but they were honest. They didn’t make excuses but they also didn’t pretend they could control market volatility.
I learned to just avoid trading extreme volatility with a broker. It’s not an IG problem, it’s a trader problem.
IG seems okay during news. Haven’t had major problems.
One thing I learned from testing IG during volatile periods is that their platform is built to handle stress. I’ve not experienced downtime or major lag during major announcements where other brokers I tested had issues.
Their support team seems to understand the volatility reality. They don’t make false promises about fixing it. Instead they explain what’s happening and why. That’s more useful than support that denies problems or over-promises solutions.
If stability during news release is a real factor for you, IG performs better than most brokers I’ve tested.
