Skip the fancy stuff—just focus on execution speed.
Start by calculating your real costs. Most active traders miss how margin rates and platform fees pile up quickly. If you’re trading derivatives, check whether the broker gives you direct market access or just market maker pricing - DMA gets you better fills when things get volatile. Don’t forget about data feeds. Real-time quotes cost extra at most places, but delayed data will wreck your day trading. Include that in your math. I’d suggest trying each broker for a month and tracking everything - spreads, commissions, all the hidden stuff they don’t advertise upfront.
IBKR’s definitely the way to go if you trade a lot. Switched years ago and saved a ton on fees.
Watch out for their fee structure though - they’ve got monthly minimums. If you don’t hit enough volume, you’re still paying that 10 Euro monthly fee.
For derivatives, IBKR’s selection is unbeatable. Options on almost everything, futures, CFDs. Trade Republic only has a few knock-outs in comparison.
TWS platform takes some learning though. Not as simple as TR’s apps, but you get real pro tools.
Also check out DEGIRO. Cheaper fees than neo-brokers and more derivatives. Platform’s a bit dated but works.
Also check bid-ask spreads. Some brokers have wider spreads that’ll eat your profits even if commissions are low.
