How do you manage the different trading hours for all these assets? Forex is 24/5, but indices have breaks.

I’m trying to wrap my head around managing multiple asset classes and their different trading schedules. Forex markets run pretty much 24 hours a day from Sunday to Friday, which I get. But when I look at indices like the S&P 500 or DAX, they have specific market hours and breaks during the day. How do you guys handle this practically? Do you focus on one type of asset at a time, or do you actually trade across multiple markets throughout the day? I’m worried about missing opportunities when one market closes, or getting confused about when each market is actually active and liquid. Any tips on organizing this would be really helpful.

Blew up a small account trying to trade everything at once - learned that lesson fast.

Now I trade forex during London/NY overlap (8am-12pm EST), then jump to US indices when they open. Set up alerts so you’re not staring at charts all day.

Most platforms show when markets are active. On MT4, I just look for green dots next to symbols - that means good liquidity.

Index futures run almost 24/7, just with thinner volume after hours. You can still catch DAX futures moves when the cash market’s closed.

Stick with one market until you’re making money, then add another. Trading multiple timeframes on the same asset beats jumping between different markets anyway.

Don’t trade too many markets at once.

I just check my broker platform. They show when sessions are active with colors or indicators.

Make a basic schedule showing when each market opens in your timezone. The money’s usually in the overlaps - like when London and New York forex sessions hit at the same time, or when index futures run alongside spot forex. Don’t go beyond 2-3 asset classes. More markets just means you’re watching everything and getting good at nothing. Find your best assets and trade them when volume’s highest. You’ll miss some trades, but that beats spreading yourself thin and making stupid mistakes.
