Been running automated systems for about 6 months now and honestly the difference is huge.
No more staying up all night watching charts or missing entries because I was in meetings. The consistency improved too since emotions aren’t getting in the way of my strategy anymore.
Same here but backtesting data can lie sometimes.
Automation has really helped me cut down on mistakes. I used to type things wrong all the time when I was trading manually. Now my systems manage position sizing and exits much better than I ever could. I still look things over every day, but I’m not stuck to my screen like I used to be.
Six months is perfect for testing automation. Most traders quit after a few weeks when they hit drawdowns. Don’t be one of them. Run different systems that aren’t correlated. One EA might struggle in ranging markets while another performs well on breakouts. I typically run 3-4 strategies on the same account. Your broker choice matters a lot. Get one with tight spreads and fast execution. EAs trade more frequently, so slippage can eat into your profits if you’re not careful.
Sleep’s brutal. I used to destroy my schedule chasing London open and New York close.
I’ve been running EAs for a couple years now - my win rate actually improved. Turns out I made awful decisions when frustrated or greedy. The bot just sticks to the rules.
I still watch for news though. Had one system keep buying EUR during a major announcement and it went sideways fast. Now I pause them during high impact releases.
Automation’s great once you dial in the settings. Yeah, it takes some trial and error, but beats the stress of manual trading.
Just don’t go completely hands-off - markets shift quick.
